Charcoaling (and one painting)

About a week ago I bought a charcoal set. So here are some of the drawings I've done.
This first one I sketched when I was at a cafe doodling.
I used mixed media paper. It's quite thick and the size is about 30x40cm or 12x15inches, as well as the painting at the end.

This second one is a little darker or creepier one. I'm not 100% happy with this so I might redo this.
I added some red paint to the wounds etc. after the fixative.

I started to make this based on my halloween mask, but now it looks a bit like Eddie from Iron Maiden. For this (and the scenery drawing above) I used charcoal paper.

And finally a painting. I sketched this while I was doodling at a cafe (again). Acrylic, emal and gouache paints were used on this one.

Miniature paintings

The largest of these is 10x10cm or 4x4 inches and smallest is 5x5cm or 2x2 inches.
This was the first time I used gouache paints and I have to say that I'm very happy with them.
They dry fast and yet in a way they give a long working time. After they have dried I can still work them by adding little water to them. This makes blending very easy.
I also like that they are opaque and matte.
For the first painting I got the inspiration when I was walking at the Pacific Grove. It doesn't quite look like that in there, but it gave me the inspiration anyways.
Inspiration for that 'eye painting' I got from a homeless artist. He makes very nice pen&ink work.
After a while of talking with him i decided to buy one of his works that gave me the idea for my smallest painting (yet). When I told him that maybe I can learn something from his work he got excited and gave me some tips on drawing. Unfortunately I didn't think of asking if I could upload his work..maybe I'll upload it later if I happen to meet him again. :)
Rest of the paintings are more or less copies of my old paintings.

Paintings 5

I made this on a miniature canvas (10x15cm or 4x6inches). I started by just messing with different colors. Then I used PVA glue to create the lines. For them I used few different gold paints.

I messed up this piece right after I made the background. But after little bit of raging this turned out to be a nice one.
At first this was going to be a rainy city scene, but after I messed it up it waited on the shelf for a few weeks. Then I got frustrated at it and took some red paint and palette knife and started to hit it on the canvas.

When I was in California last time I bought some steampunk jewelry things. I made few neclaces and then rest of the stuff waited in a box. Then one day I decided to glue them on canvas. I made the pipes from straws and washers. I got the frost effect on the glass by dropping little bit of super glue inside the clock.

This is also painted on a miniature canvas and I made it from leftover paints.

Paintings and color pencil works

I've got hooked with making scenery like in the first picture. I have made different ones with aquarelle, acrylics and color pencils :D
For the third picture I used Derwent watercolor pencils. Should have made the colors more full, but I'll leave that one like it is and remember to add more color for the next one.
The third painting is very small. The canvas is only 10x15cm or about 4x6 inches.
I'm not sure if the second painting is 100% done, even though I signed it.
Ken suggested that I should add a small transport craft, but I haven't got it look good on paper so I'm not going to mess up the painting just yet :P

I bought Derwent Artist color pencils and tried my luck with them.
First drawing is on low quality paper and I got some blobs on top and bottom. Anyway I'm happy with it as it was the first one I tried.
For the two last ones I had better quality paper and although my skills are not perfect (yet) I noticed a difference when drawing.

Even more paintings

I've been painting these (and playing wow) so I haven't painted any miniatures lately.
I'm not 100% happy with the mountains, but happy enough to upload them :D
In the last picture I made the frames from thin pieces of pine that I had slightly burned.
Nothing wise to say today. No wisdom to share (guess I'm running low on that :P).
I think I should figure out some kind of tittle for these painting posts..

More paintings

I tried out some techniques that I learned from youtube. I'm happy with these, especially with the mountainthingy. I haven't painted miniatures in a while cause I went and got all excited about painting on canvas.. :D

Mountains (painting)

I started by painting the whole canvas black. Then I made a larger ring with night blue and inside it a ball with blueish grey. While the paints were wet, I slightly blended them with my finger.
On this work I used only white, black and small amount of blue.

With dark grey I sketched the mountains. Using a knife I started to add lighter shades of grey, finishing with light touch of white.

For the trees I used fanbrush and moved from dark grey to white.

Gears of Time

I had a vision of a painting couple of days ago. So, next day I rushed to buy canvas and more acrylic paints. Making this took few days (nights to be exact..)

I sketched the idea with pencil and then painted the lines I liked.

I base painted the gears with Citadels Tin Bitz. Then with silver I blended and highlighted them.
Gold parts I started with bronze and from there I used gold. For finishing touch I used mix of silver and gold.

I had to paint the gears in multiple sections. Otherwise I would have been confused. :P

I forgot to take a picture of how I started painting the planet. So you have to do with my epic explaining skillz. With red, yellow, blue and white I made a thing. About the size I wanted the planet to be. After it was dry, I placed the round miniature base to cover the planet. Then from around the base I blended from white to night blue.
Background of the clock was made by painting it with dark brown and drybrushing with grey. The other background I painted with white and made the cracks with grey and black.

Readyyy! It just needs its own frame.. :D

Forest Sprite

Didn't feel like painting anything "real", so I made this little thing.
I used leftover pieces from Wood Elves Battalion. I made the base from bottle cap.
Small rocks are a mix of sand, glue and paint. I drybrushed all stones with a few shades of grey and white. The two larger stones got a wash of Agrax Earthshade. After that I gave them very light drybrush of Ushabti Bone.
The Sprites I started with a mix of Hoeth Blue and Altdorf Guard Blue (1:1). Followed by a wash of watered down Asurmen Blue. I then blended with Hoeth Blue, Ice Blue and finished with Ceramite White. I think that's enough blueblue :P
